OBITUARY

MRS H. BENNETT. The recent death at Hawera of Mrs Hannah (“Ann”) Bennett, wife of Mr Bertram C. Bennett, recalls many episodes in the social and musical history of Greytown. When the pantomime ‘Aladdin” was first staged it Greytown and then at the old Theatre Royal (now Graham’s store premises) in Masterton long years ago, the leading and most talented performer was Miss 11. Gallagher, a daughter of one of Greytown’s early pioneer families, and who iater, as Mrs Bertram Bennett, displayed equal talent in Hawera, where her husband and his partner, Mr W. Sutton (another ex-Mastertonian) had a business for the best part of half a century before retiring from the same. In St. Joseph’s Church, Hawera, her memory at Requiem Mass was fittingly recalled. To her husband, whose elder brother, Mr Ted” Bennett, now living at Auckland. is reported seriously ill, the sympathy of all Masterton Central School scholars of his time will be extended.
