BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council was held last night. There were present: The Mayor (Mr A,' W. Horton), Councillors W. A. Tate, I. Blissett, A. Stuart, E, Balfour, H. J. Farley, H. C. Trotman, F. Wood, H. McKenna and G. F. Eagar. A request by Mr G. S. Maloney for permission to have a shower erected at Memorial Park for hockey players was granted. The Fire Brigade wrote requesting that esumps be provided in the waterraces. The Works Committee were instructed to deal with the matter. Mr F. A. C. Hercock wrote asking if the council would release, him from his lease of the cemetery reserve Which was now occupied by the army. He was unable to make use of the land nor was he able to cut down the gorse on the property. Mr Hercock stated that he had written to the army authorities but was unable to get a reply to his letter. The councillors expressed sympathy for Mr Hercock but considered that the matter was one between the army and Mr Hercock. The foreman reported that the grader had been in operation during the month. The armed forces were constantly using Papawai Road and it was almost a full-time job trying to keep the road in good order. The Library Committee recommended that during the lighting restrictions the reading room should only be open on the evenings when the librarian was in attendance. The purifying of the water mains was left in the hands of the foreman, Town Clerk, and the health inspector to attend to. The Town Clerk was authorised to procure the necessary chlorinating material. A special meeting of the council will be held next Monday to consider a special order and the estimates. Personal Items. Mrs F. J. Brooks, of Main Street, is on a visit to Wellington. Miss Lois Thomas returned to Wellington today after having spent a fortnight in Grey town. Aircraftman Ray Ingley was a weekend visitor to Morison’s Bush. Privates N. Garrity, J .Anker and R. Eccles spent the weekend at Greytown. The engagement is announced of Margaret Eunice (“Tom”), youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Best, Greytown, to Reginald George, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. Tutt, Paekakariki. TOWN HALL TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Tonight the thrilling comedy-drama, “One Night in Lisbon,” co-starring Madeleine Carroll, Billie Burke and Fred Mac Murray, will be screened.
