HOME GUARD EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. (“Times-Age’' Special.) A successful euchre party and dance under the auspices of the local Home Guard was held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday evening. There was a very large attendance, visitors being present from various parts of the Alalley. Members of the Home Guard were present in uniform. They attended to the supper arrangements and their efforts in that direction were highly commendable. The prizes at euchre were won by Mrs Bragg (ladies) with Mrs Spicer second and Mr Arekatera (men) with Mr A. Spicer second. Mr J. O’Brien (pig). Mrs M. Burch (turkey), Miss J. Hall (chocolates) and Mrs B. Atkinson (mystery parcel) were the winners of other prizes. Mr and Mrs D. Matenga won the Monte Carlo. Mr S. Mclntosh was M.C. and the music was supplied by local players. Personal Items.’ 1 Mr and Mrs J. Te Whaiti have returned from a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs D. J. Mclntosh, Dannevirke, are staying with Mr and Mrs D. Mclntosh Senr. Miss and Mr J. Roswald, Nelson, are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Duggan. Mi’ and Mrs AV. Taylor, who have been on a visit to Gisborne, have returned home. Mr D. M. Didsbury has left for military training prior to joining the Air Force. , The death is reported from the MidIdle East, of Corporal L. Bragg, of 'Stewart Island. He was a nephew of Mr J. Bragg, of Pirinoa. . Cadet-Seaman Dick Te Whaiti is visiting relatives here. Mr Trevor Hume, who was confined to his bed with influenza, has had to enter a. private hospital for treatmen.,. Miss Scrimegour, who has been a resident of this district for the past ,two years, will shortly leave to take up her residence elsewhere. Her departure from Pirinoa is deeply regretted as Miss Scrimegour has been a valued and popular member ot the community. She has taken a keen interest in local social activities and was most energetic in her efforts to raise money for patriotic purposes. As a member, and later president, of the Women’s Institute she has rendered splendid service to that organisation. Mr J. McDonald has returned from a visit to Hastings. . Mrs G. Busch, who has been visiting relatives in Palmerston North is nowstaying with her son. Mr Frank, Busch. Cadet-Seaman Dick Te Whaiti was the recipient of a nresentation by the residents of the district on Saturday evening. Mr F. Lovegrove, J.P.. who made the presentation, stated that he had had many times the privilege of making presentations to soldiers from this district but on this occasion he was delighted to say that he was farewelling a member of the Maori race who belonged to the senior service. He was expressing the sentiments of the residents of the district in wishing CadetSeaman To Whaiti the best of luck in the Navy. Mr Te Whaiti exnressed his gratitude to the peonle of the district for their present and he hoped io hve up to the kind remarks made by Mr Lovegrove. The whole assembly then rose and sang “For He’s a Jolly, Good Fellow.” A well known local resident led the Maoris in a stirring and inspiring war-dance, which was enthusiasti'cally received.
