COAST DEFENCES

INSPECTED BY PREMIER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Beach defences in the Wellington fortress area were inspected on Sunday by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, who expressed warm appreciation of the work of the Territorials, the National Military Reserve, and the Home Guard. All, he said, were showing great enthusiasm and playing their part admirably. The spirit of the men was excellent, and the community owed a deep debt of gratitude to them for the sacrifices they were making for the defence of the Dominion.

Mi’ Fraser was accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, Messrs Hamilton and Sullivan, members of the War Cabinet, Major-General E. Puttick, Chief of the General Staff, Brigadier N. W. McD.
