RED CROSS SOCIETY WEEKLY EUCHRE PARTY. (“Times-Age" Special.) There was a good attendance at the weekly euchre party held yesterday afternoon when the sum of £1 16s was realised. The winner at cards was Mrs Lowell. The competition was won by Mr Shepherd. Donations of goods were received from Mrs Feast, Miss Palliser, Mrs Bloxam, Mrs Elliot, Mr Shepherd. Mrs Bergh donated 10s. School Association. The monthly meeting of the Home and School Association was held last evening, Miss Card presiding. A vote of condolence was passed to Mrs Algie in her recent bereavement. It was decided to purchase three cricket bats. It was resolved to hold, the local calf club day on November 28. Mr Hayes thanked Miss Card and the committee for the help and cooperation received during the year. Personal. Mrs F. Hood, Kahutara, has returned from a visit to Wellington. Accident During Gale. During the height of the gale on Sunday afternoon Mr Robert Ripley, an employee on the Fernside Estate, met with a painful accident while returning home in his car. When some distance up the drive at Fernside his car was lifted bodily by the gale, crashing into a tree. Mr Ripley then walked to Featherston where Dr. Sharp found that he had broken one rib and received other injuries. Later he was taken to the Greytown Hospital. The car was extensively damaged. Bowling. Martinborough bowling rinks visited Featherston on Saturday and played rinks from the local club. The results were—-Booth Cup: Benton, Fuge, J. Higgison and Bloxam beat Ross, Sadd, Larsen, Boyd, 23/16; W. Higgison, Hutana, O’Neale and McNamara beat Casely, Jenkins, Yates and Knell. 26/17. Shield: Elder, Talbot, James and H. Rolls beat Baker, Wilton, Green and McNally, 24/8. Barnardo Helpers Entertained. A party was held in the Kahutara ■ School on Saturday afternoon when . the Dr. Barnardo helpers were entertained at tea, which was provided by • Mrs Juno, who was unable to be pre- , sent, being still in hospital. The Barnardo boxes were opened , and with the money received from a , competition for a dressing jacket given , by Mrs Juno, the sum of £6 15s 4d ( was realised. The winner of the competition was Mrs Sexton. 1
