SWIMMING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Featherston Amateur Swimming Club was held recently, when the president (Mi’ W. Johnson) presided over a large attendance. The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. Miss Alice Johnson was appointed secretary, and Mr R. Holland treasurer. It was decided that the season be opened on Saturday, December 6. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr J. G. McKenzie for having audited the club’s books. Damage by Gale.! A fierce gale raged throughout the greater part of yesterday, attended by heavy showers. Extensive damage was done to wooden fences and gardens. A shop verandah was blown out of alignment. War Time Service. Owing to the rough and wet weather the attendance was not as good as usual at the United Citizens War Time Service held in the Town Hall last evening. Girl Guides, Boy Scouts and Fire Brigades-men were in attendance. The Rev. L. A. D. Haymon was the preacher, and the Rev. J. R. Higgs read the prayers, the lession being read by the Rev. R. S. Keenan. Tennis Club. The Tennis Club opened its season on Saturday. Miss Card, before declaring the courts open, presented the trophies won during- last season as follows: —■ Men’s championship. Mr A. White; epen championships, Mr A. White; men’s junior championship, Mr A. T. McNamara; ladies’ championship, Miss B. Rowles; ladies' open championship, Miss B. Rowles: ladies’ junior championship, Miss C. Bloxam; Eva Pearson Memorial Cups, Mr Hoby and Miss K. Rowles. Miss Card wished the club a successful season, and Mr White suitably replied 'on behalf of club members. A tournament was held and was won by Mr Rowles and Miss Joan Marshall. Personal. I Mrs Wilson, Dannevirke, was the guest of Mrs Clapshaw during the weekend.
