MAYOR’S APPEAL
FOR NATIONAL SAVINGS SUPPORT. ADDRESSES AT LOCAL THEATRES. On Saturday night the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, made a stirring appeal to audiences at the Regent and State theatres for support to ■ the Masterton National Savings quota. Mr Jordan outlined the various ways in which the public could assist this worthy cause and expressed the hope that every loyal citizen would rally to the movement, which was a vital necessity as the money paid in would be used solely for war purposes. Masterton’s quota of £784 per week, said Mr Jordan, worked out at a little over Is per head of population, which 'was not a very big sum. If those who could, would pay in more, there would be little doubt that Masterton would again set an example to the rest of New Zealand. Mr Jordan thanked the audience for their attentive interest, and also the managers of the theatres for having allowed him to make the appeal on behalf of the local committee.
