WAR APPEALS
NEW CHAIRMAN OF WELLINGTON BOARD. MR M. LUCKIE APPOINTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Minister of National Service, Mr R. Semple, announced today that Mr Martin Luckie is to be appointed chairman of No. 4 Armed Forces Appeal Board in Wellington, in place of Mr E. F. Stilwell, S.M., who will shortly resume his magisterial duties. The Minister explained that in view of the recent retirement of magistrates and the transfer of Mr J. H. Luxford to Auckland, the Minister of Justice, Mr H. G. R. Mason, had asked Mr Stilwell to return to the Magistrates’ Court. Mr Semple expressed appreciation of the sympathetic and efficient work of the Wellington Board under Mr Stilwell’s chairmanship and said in addition Mr Luckie’s qualifications as a barrister and solicitor he had been chairman of the local Manpower Committee since it was established and had a thorough knowledge of the many problems arising from appeals against service.
