Attlee and Captain Balfour departed by clipper from London. With them was a member of the House of Representatives, Mr Snyder, chairman of the House Military Appropriations Committee, who said he was travelling as a representative of the War Department on a special mission. It was revealed that he is carrying a letter from President Roosevelt to Mr Winston Churchill. 'Captain Balfour said he had consulted United States officials regarding Russian aid and had had an entirely successful mission.
