4 PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION annual meeting held LAST NIGHT. INSTALLATION OF WATER SUPPLY FOR PLAYING AREAS. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa College Parents' Association was held in the College Library last evening. Mr A. Owen Jones presiding over a fair attendance of parents. Mr Jones, speaking to the annual report, made special mention of the newly-installed water supply system on all playing areas. It was functioning splendidly and the association’s thanks were due solely to Mr F. C. Daniell for locating where a motor pump had been, a suitable spring and for the installation of a pump. the laying of pipes and connecting up with the existing supply. Mr Jones also referred to the splendid work of the ladies' committee in assisting at various College functions and card evenings, etc. Mr F. C. Daniell, in recommending future activities, stressed the need for a garage to house the College motor bus and suggested that this could be done by organising a working bee. Mr Daniell also mentioned that interhouse telephones were badly needed, as at present it was most inconvenient communicating with the various branches of the College. Cloak rooms for the Assembly Hall were badly needed, said Mr Daniell, and the provision should be proceeded with as soon as possible. Mr Jones, on behalf of the association. congratulated Messrs F. C. Daniell and G. C. L. Dickel, two members of the association, for gaining seats on the Board of Governors at the recent election.

The Principal of Wairarapa College, Mr G. G. Hancox. on behalf of the : College thanked the Parents' Association for purchasing a motor bus and stated that it was a great acquisition to the College. The water supply system recently laid on to the playing areas, etc, had been a big boon during the summer months. The election of officers resulted: President. Mr A. Owen Jones; hon secretary. Mr A. Parsons. W. Grantham. L. Wilton, J. F. Jaine, — Playsted, J. McGregor. F. C. Calvert and L. Corlett. The committee met after the annual meeting when further arrangements were made for the annual College Ball, which was to be held on Thursday, May 16. The second annual report, presented by the president. Mr Jones, said it could be claimed that the association had fully justified its existence. In addition to the raising of money to assist and carry out certain works, the association had played an important part in the social activities of the College. The first Gala Day was held in March. 1939, and proved a wonderful success, the net priceeds amounting to £174 8s 7d. The success of the Gala Day was due in a large measure to Mr Malcolm Mac Kay, the organiser, and his band of willing helpers. Thanks were also due to the College staff and pupils who played such an important part in organising and run-' ning the procession on the morning of Gala Day and assisting in the afternoon programme and in many other ways. Arrangements were well in hand to hold another gala this year, but owing to the war, and the necessity of concentrating efforts for Patriotic purposes, the committee, at the request of one of the local patrioticassociations cancelled the arrangements and postponed the gala indefinitely. During the year the association was able to complete the purchase of a bus for the College, and contributed the sum of £l2O. This vehicle had already proved its usefulness. The sum of £6O was donated towards the cost of providing a pump, and extending the existing water supply and particularly for use in the summer months. The sum of £7 10s was donated towards the cost of top dressing for the tennis courts. adjoining the Hostel. The College Ball was held in the Assembly Hall in June and was quite a success. Several old girls of the College made their debut at this function. During the year the ladies' committee held several successful bridge evenings and also assisted at several school functions by providing or assisting with afternoon tea, etc. Mr Jones thanked Mi' and Mrs Hancox for their keen interest and support given to the association, the committee for its loyalty and support and the hon secretary. Mr A. J. Towns, for his valuable assistance. The balance sheet showed a credit ' balance of £66.
