BOYS’ ACTIVITIES

WORK OF MASTERTON Y.M.C.A

A passage in the annual report of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. regarding boys' activities states: "So far as was practicable, recreational facilities were constantly available for boys in the spacious games room. These included reading material, table tennis, billiards. bagatelle, quoits, draughts and other table games. Hardly a day passed without the sound of boys' voices in the games room after school hours, and the facilities were especially in demand after the physical classes and during school holidays. Two notable annual events were the Mother and Son Tea and the Father and Son Banquet. both functions being well attended and highly successful. At the first Mi’s H E. Pither was the epeaker, and at the second. Mr A. E. Bate, former secretary to the association. Other events included a very successful social and dance organised by the senior boys and a well-enjoyed paper chase for the juniors. The competition for the Morrison Swimming Shield was keenly contested, the shield being won by Fred Sexton. A camp was not held this year, the enrolments being insuffiicicol. probably owing to the inevitable attraction of the Centennial Exhibition. A Boys' Stamp Club was formed during the year, under the direction of Mi- C. Clemas. who. unt'ortun-| ately for the club is now on active ser- i vice. Tlie general secretary carried on | the club after the departure of Mr [ Clemas. The membership though not I large, shows considerable enthusiasm. Thanks arc due to Mr Trevor Beet- I ham for his interest in the club." I
