Greytown Winter Entertainments.

The fourth of a series of winter oven, ing entertainments in aid of a fund for a now fire engine for the Borough, took place on Monday evening in the Greytown Town Hall, and on this occasion there was a good and appreciative audience. Mr F, H. Wood and Dr Bey were the caterers this time, and they had evidently used their best endeavors to secure a most excellent programme. The overture played by Miss Bowler was excellently performed, and that lady has rendered valuable sendee to the cause during the present season. Mrs Samuel, from Carterton, sang ‘ Just as Well’ aud was encored; her singing is always much appreciated everywhere she consents to take part in an entertainment. Mr Moucnt'f, Waihakeko, sang several songs in a masterly manner; his “ Heather Hills ” was a great success. Miss Searle sang i-ame very nice songs, and she received rounds of applause, having to re-appear upon each occasion. Two instrumental duets by Mrs Knell aud Mr Luudqvist were most effectively rendered and received rounds of approbation. Mrs Hume contributed some excellent songs in graud voice, aud she met with enthusiastic applause. Mr Black sang “Wandering Minstrel” in his tine bass voice- with splendid effect, aud the “ Bailiff's Daughter of Islington,” renuered by Mrs Wm. Booth, of Carterton, was considered by all a great treat; she was accordingly encored. Miss Wood in the second part played a piauofor overture very nicely’ aud a trio Blow Soft ye Winds,” in which aLssrs Black aud Gamble aud Mrs Hume cook part with invisible instrumeuta laceompanimcnt by members of the Orchestral Society behind the scenes, had a most pleasing effect, Mr M. C. Tally held the audience convulsed with laughter with a comic song “ The Naughty Young Man,” and Mr Gamble sang “ Hear Mo Gentle Mariataua” in great voice. “ God Save the Queen ” by the company concluded a most enjoyable uigtu’s entertainment. Next week a torchlight procession by the Brigade, headed by the Band will probably take place.
