Teetotal Reform.
TkktiiTax. reform in Wellington city goes " see sinvs,” At one time it is in the ascendant, at another it is decidedly bearing downwards. A year ago the Cook Licensing Committee shut up three hotels of the grog-shop species. The most of the members of this committee were turned out at last election, and pro* publican candidates put in their places. The new committee has granted licenses to the three shut up hotels, and so the “ bear, bung and barreF’Jinterest is triumphant. When the three hotels were shut up the three holders thereof were ruined financially. But now that the three hotels are to be opened again, three new men are to . hold them, so that the ruined former holders get no benefit from such opening. The temperance party have a long and hard light before them in the crusade to stamp out the liquor traffic, seeing that ills Wbfk of one year is undone tbo next.
