Taratahi-Carterton Road Board.
The usual meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday. Present—Messrs W. Booth, H B Bunny, Jas Stevens, H Brailhwaite, N Grace, W Parker, J Bayner E W Dorset, and D Beid (the new member for No 7 Ward). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Messrs B F Percy and Anketell waited on the Board in reference to a road on their properties. Deferred till after the annual meeting. Annnat meeting, election of Chairman. On the motion of Mr Booth seconded by Mr Stevens, Mr H B Bunny was elected chairman lor the ensuing year. The newly elected Chairman thanked the members for the honor conferred on him, but regretted that they had lost their old chairman (Mr Boys) who bad worked so harmoniously with them for so many years. The Clerk was instructed to write to him on behalf of the Board thanking him for his valuable services rendered to the Board, during the time of bis holding office. The Board then adjourned for half an bonr for the ratepayers' meeting, but no ratepayers put in an appearance. The Clark read the minntes of the last annual meeting, also the balance sheet for the last year, which were duly confirmed. The members then adjourned for lunsh, and on resuming the question of fencing the the toad through Mr Perry’s land was discussed. The chairman remarked that the vacation of opening the road through to the settlers ; back of Mr Perry’s, was one of vital importance; he hoped that it would be arranged to do so. Mr Percy, who was present, remarked that before consenting to that he wished to consult his sons on the matter, which he promised to do and report at the next meeting. Accounts for payment were then passed. Mr Hannah waited on the Board in reference to bush being felled prior to erecting the boundary fence between the Education Deserve and Mr Garter’s land which he offered to do at 3s fid per chain. His offer was accepted. On the motion of Mr Parker, seconded by Mr Booth, Mr Hugban was requested to fall seven trees sn Park road. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Wm Booth, all outstanding rales are to be sued for without delay.
The clerk was instructed to write to Mr Beard in reference to a deed relating a right of way to a gravel pit on the Taratahi, and also te Mr Reynolds (late warden of No 1 ward) to ascertain if he knew anything about it.
In reference to a dangerous place on the Long Bush track it was left to the warden, Mr H. B. Bunny, and N. Grace to report at the next meeting. The chairman and Mr Booth were authorised to arrange with the Bank of N.Z. in respect to the Board’s overdraft.
This concluded the business and the meel ing terminated.
