Featherston Road Board.

This Board met on Saturday at Featherstou. Present—Messrs J. Tally (chairman), Matthews, MoDougall, Bowman, Bid will, Elgar, Monokton, and Harris. The clerk read the ruinates oi previous meeting which were confirmed. OOBBBBPONDBNOB. The outward correspondence was read, also the correspondence inwards which comprised the following From J. Hodge re drain on road, and stating that a swamp Committee of settlers was formed a few years ago to undertake the work of clearing the drain, but he bad neatly always bad to do the work himself without any assistance, and mentioning that as he did not intend to correspond any further on the subject it was not necessary for the Board to reply to his letter. From Chief Surveyor, stating that he was not aware of any road being laid off to Mr J. Donald’s section, No 93, From Colonial Treasurer, announcing that he had decided to inscribe Board’s stock at the Treasury at 5 percent interest per annum, payable half yearly, and that it would not be necessary to issue fresh debentures. From Mr H. H. Welters, County Clerk, upon the same subject. From Ur Coleman Phillips, concerning the Waiobine Bridge between Matarawa and Greytown, and asking the cooperation of the Board toward the erection of the same, stating that Matarawa would contribute L4O per year and Greytown Borough L2O per annum towards the interest on the outlay ; also, calling the Board’s attention to the dangerous state of the Platform Bridge in his riding on the Greytown and Carterton road. From Mr 0. Pharazyn, calling attention to the necessity for the formation of the road through the Awhea district; cuttings being urgentlyjreqnired, so as to avoid going down by the Awhea creek. From ratepayers in No. 6 Ward, recommending the Board to adopt the upper site proposed as the site for the Bnamabanga bridge at Eahautara. From Mr G. Lawrie, stating that be was prepared to take the tollhouse, Waihenga, at his previous offer. ibbabubbb’b statement. 1 have to report the amount to credit of ordinary accounts £3lB 11s fid and to the credit of imprest accounts at £77 14s lid. Daring the month the balance of grant for Cross Greek Boad £6O, has been received. The position oi each sub-district to date is as follows, against which today’s payments have to be placed :—No 1 credit, £27 8s fid; No 2, £l3B Os 7d ; No 8, £ll7 11s 3d. ineluding £7115s fid of Cross’ Creek Grant; No 4 debit, LB2 2a lid ; No 5 credit, L2 4s 7d ; No 6, Ll7B 17s 3d ; No 7, L 79 12s 8d ; No 8, L 73 7s 4d. The rates to be collected in each subdistrict and the balance of subsidy ate not yet placed to the credit of each sub-district. The former will be shown in next statement. By the inscription of debentures the amounts to be paid in lieu of L 216 on May Ist will be Ll3 10s 7d, (for Eahautara) L 22 11s 3d for Moroa ; L4lss Id for Ward's line and Ll4 13s; for Battersea being half year’s interest payable on the Ist of August. The country debenture for Martinborough-Pahaoa road is also inscribed, and in place of LBB 6s fid due on the Ist of May only Ll4 7s 3d will have to be paid half yearly on the Ist of August and Ist of February. TENDERS. Mr Skeet said ;he had written officially to the Clerk to the Waiobine Rivet Board but he had not replied in the matter of the metal required from the river bed for the road by the Platform ; he advised that that permission of Mr W. Udy be obtained to cart the metal across hist private road from the river. Mr Matthews said parties using private roads should be compelled to repair the same when they had out them up carting metal. Mr Bidwill said that metallera generally leave roads in a disgraceful state. The following tenders were received Removing Platform bridge and metallii.. new piece of road—Q Wiggins L 46 11s, hi Oanity LB9 10s, Burgess Bros L 46 10s, (accepted). 60 chains formation and metalling South Featherctou—Burgess Bros 16s 6d per chain, F Wilkinson 16s, 11 Hodder 15s, Bicknell and Gooding 12s (accepted), Gardener and Co. also tendered for a lump sum of L 45. KAHAUIABA BBIDOB. Mr McDonald moved that the upper site be accepted as the place to build the bridge over the KuamaUunga at Eahautara. Seconded by Mr Bidwill and carried. Mr McDonald moved and Mr Bidwiii seconded, that Mr Eiug prepare sectional plans and specifications for the work. Agreed to. WAIHEN9A TOLLHOUSE. AWHBA MAD. Mr Pharazyn’s application that a cutting be made on top of McLeod's hill, and other cuttings to avoid going down by the Awhea river bed, was next considered. In reference to a proposal to take the road under the Public works Act, Mr Harris said be did not feel inclined to sanction anything that would hamper the ratepayers for the next half year that might take two yean to recover from. Mr Matthews thought it would cost Ll2 per mile to take the land under the Public Works Act; he moved that the matter be deferred to give Mr Harris sn opportunity to see Mr Pharazyn in the meantime; he said at the next meeting that be would then be prepared to move something definitely in the matter. Mr Monokton seconded Mr Matthews’ motion which was carried. LEOALISIEO BOADB. Phillip that tbs Matarawa bridge site is net in the Boad Board district. MISCELLANEOUS. In reference to a letter received from Messrs Wall and Sons abont a cutting at the end oi Heagerty's contract, it was resolved to inform them that there were no funds tor the part pose at present. It was resolved that the overseer have part of Morphy’s line and Pigeon Bush Boad ; formed and metalled, and if necessary that tenders be called for the work.
