Featherston Road Board.

This Board met on Saturday. Present— Messrs A Matthews (in the chair), D Mao* Bengali, Bowman. W E Bidwill, and F Monokton. CORRESPONDENCE. The Clerk read the oorrespondenoe outs wards, the substance of which has already been repotted. The correspondence inwards was as follows; Letter from the Secretary to the Qreytown Hospital, asking the Board to contribute toward the maintenance of that institution. Letter from Mr Alex Campbell, Morrison’s Bush, asking that the action of the ranger be suspended from that district for the present, or until the settlers bad the opportunity to erect new fences in lieu of those recently burned by the fires that have been raging in that locality. Letter from Mr W Candy, forwarded by tbe Chairman (Mr J Tuily) asking that the ranger be withdrawn from the Bimataka and Western Lake roads for tbe present, aa it is necessary for the cattle, Ac, to go upon those roads to gat water during the long continued dry weather. Letter from Mr Duncan Cameron, applying again for the sum of LlO to be spent so as to allow him to get his wool carted to the beach. Letter from tbe Colonial Treasurer re tbe debentures outstanding, and recommending that the Board should resolve to have them converted either aa inscribed stock, or as fresh debentures, which he (the Treasurer) could do at his o»o option, of the matter was left in his bands. OBETTOWN HOFPIIAL. It was resolved to allow the matter of the application on behalf of the Qreytown Hospital to stand over until next meeting to give the Board an opportunitv to ascertain its position in reference to giving assistance to Hmt institution, several members of tbe Board expressing opinions in favor of granting assistance if tbe Board has power to do so. THE RANGER. It was resolved to instruct tbe ranger not to impound ca'tle for the present found on the roads in the Morrison's Bush district, or until the next monthly meeting of the Board, but as regards the application concerning the Western Lake and Bimutaka road the Board resolved to take no action. MR CAMERON'S APPLICATION. I ■ was resolved to refer the matter of Mr C no i on’s application to the County Council, Matthews informing the Board that he v-muki, as a member of tbe Council, urge U! on tbe County Council tbe necessity to coutiuue the road through to the coast. THE DEBENTURES. Mr Bidwill proposed and Mr Monet tm seconded, that the Colonial Treasurer be asked to convert the existing debentures under the Beads and Bridges Act, due by the Board. Carried. Mb bowman’s motion. Mr Bowman withdrew the notice of motion standing in bis name. WARDENS' REQUIREMENTS. Mr Monokton asked (or, and received, permission to have some drains cleaned at Morrison’s Bush (near Hodge’s) and Ward’s line roads. Mr Matthews applied for, and was granted, permission to extend Burgess Bros’ contract, about 10 chains, at 15s per chain. ACCOUNTS PASSED. Accounts ordinary, £2Ol, and imprest, £43* were passed for payment. The treasurer reported as follows; 1 beg to report tbe amount to credit of ordinary account at L 547 15s 6d, and imprest account L17112s 6d. Tbe amounts received since last meeting on general rates LB9 18s lid, poundage fees LI 17s, rent of toll L2116s lOd.

The financial position of each sub district at date is as follows, against which today’s payments hare to be placed No 1, credit, L 55 18s 7d; No 2, L 127 15s 2d ;No 3, Lllß 17s 7d (including a balance of L 29 9s 4d Cross’ Creek); No 4, debit, L 26 3s lOd ; No 5, credit, L2B 10s 4d; No 7, credit, L 144 7s 7d ; No 7, credit, L6O 2s 6d ; No 8, credit, L27915s Bd. It will be necessary to pass a voucher against ordinary account of L 3 3s 6d to pay into imprest account, this overdrawn on Ward’s line, and ohargable to No 1 sub dis®Bn^" The Board will hold a splft'iMltjng today to appoint a chairman aj IkMliegs to be held iu Nos five and six war®, relative to the proposal to borrow iiSQCi for roads in the former, and L2OOO for Bfetaptara bridge in the latter, the said meetingaio be held on the 17th inat at the Town Hall, Martinbotongh, and tbo schoolhouse, Pirinoa. Mr Bowman gave notice that be would move that the tollgate at Waihenga be abolished after the expiration of the present lease.
