Emergencies—Hall, sen, aud Lieut Johnston. The Greytown Ride Volunteers mustered for Church Parade yesterday. Tim Masterton Brass Band were present aud played the corps to church, having cheerfully ami handsomely responded to the application of Ilia officer ooramaniiing the Greytown Company to do eo. The Papawai Company under Captain Jury and Lieut Te Ore wire also present, Tbe volunteers in attendance all told numbered sixty six, aud quite enlivened tbe Borough by tho appearance of so many red coats and tho martial etraine of the excellent music supported by tbo vinTing bond. On arrival at the church tho choir greeted the citizen soldiers with tbe processional "On. ward Christian Soldiers " and the singing of the choir throughout the service was excellentThe Rev Chaplain (Mr Western) preached a most suitable sermon, and the church was well filled. After tne service ilie vc!'d2t?*r“ under the command of Captain Cameron, assisted by bis officers Lieutenants Porritt, Johnston, and the officers of tho Native corps were marched back to the Post Office where Captain Cameron, on behalf of his and Captain Jury’s companies, thanked tbe Band lor their services. (!i‘m\Vpi>d and the M(interton musicians were, at the invitation of the Greylowu company, entertained at dinner at the Foresters’ Arms. Captain Jury entertained his men at the Club Hotel. In the afternoon the Band repaired to Mr O’Connor’s paddock where, under their leader, Mr James Bentley, they entertained a numerous audience with some selections performed in an able manner. The Band then left for home with mutual satis faction both to themselves and the residents of the town. They had a pleasant day’s outing and the Grey town people were much delighted with their visit. It is to be hoped that ere long the Qreytown Bides may have reason to be proud of as good a band.
