RISE IN WOOL, Loudon, Jan 25. The wool Bales opened today. The joint catalogue of Messrs Chas Balme & Son and Schwartze, Helmuth <fe Co. comprised 8000 bales. The room was crowded and keen competition manifested, prices ruling 10 per eeut above December closing rates. Two hundred and forty-five thousand bales are available for this series. The shipments by the Hankow, Aberdeen, Tongatiro, and Shannon have been admitted, whilst that by the Avenger has been excluded.
Monday's market arrested the decline in breadstuffs. Mr Esin Jackson, in a letter on the agricultural outlook, gives twelve reasons for expecting higher pricee. Greasy wool is Jd higher than at the close of last sales ; scooted wool being from Id to IJd higher. Aden, January 25. A body of Abysaioians, under the rebel chief Ras Alonta, attacked the town of Massowab. In the conflict five Italians and 200 Abyssinians were killed. . KmVe, January 25. In consequence of the Abyssinian attack on the Italian settlement at Massowab, large reinforcements will be sett, to the garrison ol that place. Two corvetSs will shortly sail for Massowab. AdHTide, January 20. The first special tram has started for Mels bourne. The passengers included the Chief Secretary. All luggage has to be examined on the border.
