St Mark’s Sunday School.
The St Mark’s Sunday scholars at Carterton held their annual treat at the Pastoral Society's Grounds, on Year's Day. The children to the number of 150 formed into precession and marched from the Sunday ■■ohool to the {'rounds, headed by their handsome banner. Some very nice games were huailgeu in, ti.l the time for taking tea and the teachers and many friends, who mustered to over one hundred, joined in the sport. A cricket match was also played between Mr A. Booth’s side and Mr A. Moore's. Mr Moore’s team winning ultimately by 29 runs. Scores, Mr Booth’s side- C Pairbrother 7, T Moore 0, A Booth 1, F Tyler 0, II Booth 4, W Eagle 1, T Price, senr. 0, G Armstrong 8, W Booth 10, W McKenzie 0, W Smith 1, extras 11, total 49. Mr Moore’s side—W Moore 8, A Moore 2, J. King 4, A Mercer 14, T Price 8, C Gooding 28, A Haxton 1, J Bennett 0, H Moore 5, H Groube 0, J Bond 0, extras 18, total 78. The ladies connected with the church most liberally supplied the refreshments. Mesdames Burnett, Eagle, and some young lady friends were conspicuous by their kind assistance and Messrs Fairbrother and Kathbone rendered good help.
