Sudden Death at Taratahi.
A man named J. McDonald, who has recently been an inmate of the Greytown Hospital, suddenly fell down dead on Monday evening a little after 5 o'clock in the rear of the Taratahi hotel, while looking for his horse. An inquest was to have haen held at the Taratahi Hotel yesterday, but it was not considered necessary to complete the enquiry, as Dr Spratt, the Coroner did not think it was required, because he considered that Mr Pcrter might have given a certificate cf the cause of death, which he refrained from doing, not being gazetted a duly qualified medical practitioner in New Zealand, hence the conclusion was arrived at in the first place that an inquest was necessary. Ulti" mately the coronet accepted Mr Potter's certificate of the cause of death, namely, Phthisis; the enquiry was not proceeded with. Mr Porter regretted that his error had caused unnecessary trouble.
