"A Word in Season."

To the Editor of the Standard, Sib,—The revival of the Greytown Horti> cultural sod Industrial Society ie a gratifying event, indicative of what Greytown ia capable of when “ called upon.” Kindly afford me space for a few suggestions for future consideration of the Managing Committee with a view to the successful and permanent continuance of the Society. Let a distinction be made between professional and amateur exhibitors. Bow can a “labouringman ” compete (with any success) in flowers or fruits with a gentleman of means, or a florist or market gardener * Did space permit, one might enlarge ad libitum. I would respectfully submit to the Show Committee the propriety of arranging the exhibits to as to enable the visitors to the exhibition to distinguish the amateur from the professionals (I use the term for want of another more appropriate) the result I believe would be-special prizes to cottage gardeners, amateurs, citizens, &0., alike applicable to adults, youths and children of both sexes. The effect would be an incentive to heme improvements both outside and in. Useful articles would be made; pretty gardens seen ; bee culture would be attempted; more fruit would be grown, &o , and last but not least that portion of our neighbours known as “ the working class " would earn well deserved prizes in amounts proportioned to the gilt of general donors. I am, &c„ C. W. Hobnblow. Greytown, November 1,1886.
