Greytown Borough Council

This Council held a special meeting on Monday night. Present—His Worship tbs Mayor (F. H. Wood, Esq.), Crs Varnham, St George, Smith, Cameron, Cotter, and Armstrong. A memo was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands stating that the Government would grant the block of laud north- of Greytown provided that the sum of £34 be paid to Mr Gallagher. Cr Varnham proposed, and Cr Smith seconded, That a deputation consisting of the Mayor, Cr Smith, and the mover wait upon Mr Gallagher with respect to the amount for improvement, Carried.

The Mayor moved, and Cr Cameron seconded, That the Council take legal action against Mr Boss, claiming damages for destruil on of property if the solicitor is of opinion that course of action is desirable after hearing the facts of the case. Carried. Cr Varnham proposed, and Cr St George seconded, That Mr Sheet be employed to lay off the Powhata Koad. Carried. Cr Varnham proposed, and Cr Armstrong seconded, That Cr Cotter and the Overseer be authorised to pass the work on Jackson’s Hoad. Carried.
