Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Show.

The Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Show at Carterton on Friday was held in the Public Hall. The attendance, considering the bad weather was very fair. The show was an excellent one and some of the best poultry to be found in the colony were exhibited. The canary and pigeon classes also were well represented. In the poultry class the judging appeared to give great dissatisfaction among some of the best poultry breeders in Masterton, Wellington, and other places, and indeed in some instances the disapproval of the decisions appeared certaiuly to be warranted. At any rate to allow one person to judge all classes of poultry is in the first place, a grave error, as one individual may be an excellent authority on one class, and know comparatively nothing of another. In the next instance there is an opinion prevailing which no doubt is a sound one, that fresh judges should be chosen each year and from men who have the prestige of haying been breeders of the particular class they affect to decide upon. Wo throw out these bints in the interests of the society and we are certain tbat they will take them in the same good spirit in which they are offered, as in oar opinion every good exhibitor should be in every way encouraged to send his fowl,s and by keeping up the tone of the competition the show will prove the greater success. Mr H. H. Wolters the secretary, and the committee are to be commended for their exertions toward the success of the institution and it i» to be hoped tbat next year the show will prove what it should be the unrivalled of all poultry shows in the Wellington province. We believe from our experience in poultry, that Mr Elkins would be prepared to meet any bird in the pile game olasa with the bird he was defeated with in Carterton, also Mr Skelley with the Brahma Cockrell he showed in the selling class.
