The Wairarapa Native Committee have juat finished sitting in judgment ou a pakeha living at Papawai and fined him £9 ss. The following document will explain matters : The Native Committee to Mr Ross—Yon are sworn upon evidence before the Native Committee in the case of C. Jury given by the lawyer which was sent by you for the sum of £IOO, that you had beeu told that C. Jury had been trying to give you a bad name re Puiura WatareuihaV death; you requested to come before the committee; the committee tried this case; you have been giving a lot of trouble among the Natives and Europeans in lots of cases. On this account the committee will fine yon £9 ss. Pay the committee to day. Signed—Na ha Mabnpnkn, Wi Entana, Piripi te Maori, Koemani-nutu-pikarari, H. Haaka-temoe, Paratane Matenga, or this committee of Wairarapa. Tbe matter was placed in tbe bands 0! Mr Sandilands, solicitor, by Mr Boss, and Mr Sandilands has replied as follows Na Piripi Maari, Papawai, near Grey town —Be C. Jury ; Mr R. Boss and his wife Mrs Isabella Boss have handed me certain papers signed by Maori Natives. Amongst others a document which bears your signature as a member of a sooalled Native Committee. The document last referred to is in fact libellous, and the whole proceeding was illegal. Too have demanded the payment of money te which you are not entitled. I shall, therefore, on behalf of Mr and Mrs .Boss, take steps to bring the illegal proceedings referred to under review of a British local Court of Justice, and I shall certainly place you in such a position that you will have to answer the charge.
