Jn tne House of Commons to-Jav, the Maiqius of Hartington, Secretary of State for the War Department, m reply to a question, stated, regarding operations in the Soudan, that the Government had decided to make Wady Haifa the advanced frontier, and to withdraw the troops to that point on the rising of the Nile, The expedition to Khartoum would be abandoned, and an endeavor would be made to eetablish an administration from Dongola. It wag intended to complete the 6 railway system along the Nile, but the projected line from Eaakim to Berber would be relinquished. In conclusion, Lord Hattingion stated that England would continue to retain possession of Suakim until arrangements conld be concluded for the occupation of that port by some civilised Power.
