DISTRICT SCHOOLS’ TOURNEY

WINS FOR TE AWAMUTU AND PATERANGI.

There was a good attendance at Te Awamutu District High School courts last Saturday especially from neighbouring districts, for the annual basketball tournament. Keen contests eventuated. Results:— SENIORS.

Seven teams competed in the senior division for the rose bowl. In the first round Ohaupo A defeated Pirongia 3 to 2, Te Awamutu A defeated Kihikihi 6 to 4, Te Awamutu B defeated Convent 19 to 10, and Ohaupo B had the bye. In the second round Te Awamutu A defeated Ohaupo A by 7 to 4, and Te Awamutu B defeated Ohaupo B 10 to 2. In the final Te Awamutu A defeated Te Awamutu B by 11 to 5. JUNIORS. In the junior division, for the Orakau Shield, there were also seven teams engaged. In the first round Parawera defeated Mangapiko by 9 to 1. Te Kawa defeated Te Rahu by 11 to 2. Paterangi defeated Hairini by 17 to 2, and Korakonui bad the bye. In the second round Te Kawa defeated Parawera by 6 to 2 and Paterangi defeated Korakonui by 14 to 3. The final resulted in a win for Palterangi by 7 to 3. TE AWAMUTU V. HAMILTON. * A return match, Te Awamutu District High School versus Hamilton Convent Old Girls, was also played. High School A defeafe'd Convent A bv 10 goals to 4, and Convent B defeated High School B t>y7 to 3. The former game was a particularly fast one, and really good basketba 1 ! was witnessed. The success of the local girls augurs well for their prospects of retaining the Collison Cup this year. 1 At- the conclusion of nlay refreshments were partaken of. and Mr G. 5. Clarke, chairman of Te Awamutu School Committee, congratulated the winning teams, and then invited the Mayoress fMrs C. G. Downes) to present the Rose Bowl and the Orakau Shield to Te Awamutu and Paterangi respectively. The presentations were made amid hearty applause.
