“ KIA KAHA ” COMMENTS.

The school grounds were a scene of activity and girls on Saturday last. Primary basketball teams, seven in the senior, and seven in the junior competition, from the country schools, including two from the local school, competed for the Rosebowl and the Junior Shield. The final for the former, played off between the Te Awamutu A and B teams, was won by the A’s by 10 goals to 4. A team from the Paterangi school won the Junior Primary Basketball Shield. Mrs Downes, in a few kindly words, presented the trophies. Two visiting teams representing the Hamilton Convent Old Girls played the local High School’s teams in return matches. According to results, Miss Ryburn, the High School skipper must have won the toss and elected to play with the wind, for the “A ” team won by the considerable margin. The “ B ” basketball team led on the field by Miss Joan McGovern, was less fortunate however, for the opposing forwards showing to advantage in the loose, threw several pretty goals. The High School Ist fifteen, playing against their old rivals, Rovers, registered a victory. Soon after the kick-off Cooper, for Rovers, kicked a nice penalty goal, Corboy equalising shortly after from a penalty. Playing hard near the line the High School forwards were awarded a penalty score, to which Corboy failed to add the minor points. Gathering the ball from Miller, at half, Ahier cut in nice, ly to score beneath the posts,, Corboy’s kick was successful. High School 11, Rovers 3. After the spell Rovers pressed hard, McGovern relieving several times by forcing. However, “Scotty” Miller dived over. Cooper’s kick failed. Shortly afterwards Miller scored again for Rovers. Cooper’s kick at goal, which, had it been successful would Siave made the scores equal, failed, the game ending 11 to 9..

The second term exams., commencing on Friday, are being looked forward to with rather less favou than are approaching basketball and football games with the Otorohanga High School.

Items for the coming school concert are already in hand, and this display, if up to the standard of previous school entertainments, should ensure packed houses.
