SOCIAL AND PERSONAL
Bishop Bennett, of Aotearoa,, is expected to visit Te Awamutu on Monday next. Mr A. W. Welstead, who is well known in this district as commercial agent of the Railway Department, and who takes up a new appointment as chief clerk of the commercial branch of the department in Wellington at the end of this week, was in Te Awamutu yesterday. He was accompanied by Mr Craig, his successor, as commercial agent in the Auckland district.
Before Mr K. McNaughton, who has been teacher at Wharepuhanga School for the past three years or so, left the district to take up an appointment in. the Greymouth district, he was entertained at the Korakonui Hall to a complimentary social, at which opportunity was taken to present him, on behalf of the Kihikihi Football Club, with a handsome travelling rug. Mr Roger Kay, in making the presentation, said all football enthusiasts were sorry that Mr McNaughton was leaving, for he had been a thorough sportsman, a good player, and a capable official; he had represented Wai. pa in representative fixtures, captained the Kihikihi Club, and also acted as secretary and treasurer. Ills conduct on and off the field was a pattern to all.. Everybody connected in any way with football appreciated him, just as the residents fold and young) of Korakonui did, and the district was losing a gentleman whom it would be hard to replace. ('Applause.) The travelling rug would, the speaker felt sure, serve to remind the recipient of many pleasant associations. Mr McNaughton was accorded musical honours, and he made an appropriate acknowledgement of the presentation and the sentiments accompanying it.
