GOLF

FINALS OF THE SHEA TROPHY MATCHES.

More interest has been shown in the competition for the Shea trophies by members of the Te Awamutu Golf Club than in any other competition for some considerable time, and as the finals approached there was usually a large gallery of onlookers. The men’s competition, for a handsome canteen of cutlery, open to all members, .reached finality dur ; ng the week-end, when F. C. B'undell played J. B. Muir. This produced exciting golf, for the course record was broken. Blundell finished one up, with a score of 68, which is one under the course record. His figures for the three matches in the series are interesting —72, 74 and 68, which with his handicap aggregate of 18 makes his net score 196. This is actually eleven under scratch, score. Muir’s figures were 93, 97 and 91, bu£ Tie was on a long handicap (being a comparative novice), viz., 83, and thus his net score was 197. Blundell was “going great guns” in the final, and but for sending a ball ouit of bounds in the final round his performance would almost certainly have been even better than is shown.

In the ladies’ division Mrs H. McDonald proved to be the winner, with scores of 85, 84 and 83, which with her aggregate handicap of 33 gave her a net total of 219. which is three beitter than the scratch score. The respective winners were heartily congratulated upon their achievements.
