BARGAIN HUNTERS

WITH HOLLYWOOD ON A SHOPPING TOUR. Not long ago a newspaper woman expressed her surprise, in print, over the fact that when she went shopping with Mary Pickford in Hollywood their - destination proved to be a department store famed for low prices. The newspaper woman declared that you could count the stars who bought their clothes at such places on the fingers of an armless wonder. She didn't know her Hollywood. That store is the favourite dress shop of many a smartly r gowned star, and they aren't above rummaging on the bargain racks, either. One of their buyers is commissioned by many of the " best-dressed " stars to shop for them when she goes to Paris. Not so long ago she showed some of the new models to an acquaintance, mentioning that they had been bought for one of the young women who share the reputation of being filmdom's best-dressed females. " They'll cost her around two hundred and fifty a piece," she confided; " but she won't mind." A few days later the acquaintance encountered the film star at a luncheon, the star being clad in one of the new frocks.

" What a lovely gown ! " exclaimed the girl. "It must have come straight from Paris." " I suppose so," replied the star, nonchalantly. " I bought it at So-and-so's. Of course, their prices are villainous, but they do give you something that no one else seems to obtain." So-and-so'^" happened to be a shop where a single frock is likely to cost at least seven hundred and fifty dollars; but of course it wouldn't do for one of Hollywood's best-dressed women to admit that she patronised a cheap department store.
