A SILENT MINISTRY

CRITICISM BY LABOUR MEMBER. WELLINGTON, Friday. The small contribution made to the financial debate by members of the Ministry was adversely commented on by Mr W. Lee Martin (Labour —Raglan) when speaking in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr Martin singled out the Postmaster-General, the Hon. J. B. Donald, for special reference. He said Mr Donald preferred to be known as a business man, and not a politician, yet he had not given any of his business ideas to the House. "Everyone must recognise that the Budget is staggering in its incidence," said Mr Martin. "It is the most drastic brought down by any Government. What surprises the most is the little interest manifested by members of the Ministry in the proposals in the Budget. We have a ship of State commanded by 15 officers and a crew of ten. It seems to me that all the work is being left to the crew. "Ministers have sat silent throughout the debate. They have not given us any information as to the departments under their control, and some serious charges have been made against departments. One would expect that at a time like this the Ministers would give the fullest information they could to the House in connection with these proposals."
