WAIPA AND ADJACENT COUNTIES.

THE OFFICIAL RETURNS.

The numbers of sheep in this part of the North Island (says the Te Kuiti Chronicle) shoiv a big increase for the present over last year according to the annual returns of sheep farmers tabled before the House recently. For the year 1928, over an area comprising the Waipa, Otorohanga, Waitomo and Kawhia counties, there wore 328,014 sheep, while for the present year the number has increased to 456,769 —an increase of 74,755. The following are the figures given in the returns for the counties:—

Waipa . 54.502 70,308 Otorohang-a . . 39.131 52,405 Waitomo . 230,367 269,476 Kawhia . 58,014 64,580 Total . 382,014 456,769
