WORDING OF A CHARGE. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) ' HAMILTON, Wednesday. “The information does not disclose any offence,” said the magistrate, Mr Wyvern Wilson, in the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court to-day, When a man, who did not appear, was charged with “riding a bicycle on the footpath of the Hamilton railway bridge, such footpath being constructed for the use of foot passengers only.” The magistrate said the path leading to the Court entrance was a footpath, but it was not a highway Avithin the meaning of the Public Works Act under which the information Avas laid. He suggested that the charge should read, “Riding a bicycle on a public highway, to wit, the path leading to the railway bridge, such footpath being constructed" for foot passengers only.” The magistrate added that as' defendant was not present he could pot amend the information, which would have to be dismissed.
The police withdrew the information and also two other charges of a similar nature.
