CAMBRIDGE v. TE AWAMUTU.

VISITORS WIN EVERY GAME.

There was a very animated scene at the Victoria Park greens last Saturday afternoon, when the Te Awamutu" bowling green had as visitors no less than 36 players from Cambridge, for an inter-club match, and half a dozen each from Otorohanga and Te K&ti. The King Country players had come up to see their respective club champions in action in connection with the South Auckland centre's singles championship. Taumarunui having deulted, J. H. . Saunderson (Otorohanga) played C. Harris (Te Kuiti) and was defeated. Then Harris played T. Mclnnes, Te Awamutu's champion, and after an interesting contest Harris won by 19 points to 12. The greens were in first class order and the day being ideal for bowls, a very enjoyable afternoon's sport resulted. Mr J. T. North, president of the local club, welcomed the visitors, making especial mention of the veterans' match between the four oldest members of the Cambridge and Te Awamutu clubs. Cambridge had with them "the grand old man of bowls," Mr Geo. E. Clark, who was still a wonderfully able player, though 88 years of age, and other doughty players, including Mr Win. McFarlane. The combined ages of the visiting quartette was 312 years, beside whom Te Awamutu's youngsters could only account for 285 years between them. Play was soon commenced, and when the full 21 heads had been played it was seen that .Cambridge had won the whole nine games, with an aggregate of 161 points to Te Awa--mutu's 140. In returning thanks for his fellow players, Mr Martin Butler referred to the pleasant rivalry between the two clubs. Te Awamutu's Wednesday players had defeated Cambridge earlier in the week, and thus the Saturday players from Cambridge were only equalising the tally. He congratulated W. J. North, of Te Awamutu, on his meritorious performance _ at the recent Dominion championships, and hoped he would do even better next time. (Applause). After cheers had been exchanged, all joined in complimenting the ladies upon the ample and tasty afternoon tea they had dispensed. In connection with the South Auckland champion of champions competition, C. Harris will now meet R. L. Henderson (Te Awamutu) to decide the group winner. This match will be the best two out of three games, and will be played at the close of Te Awamutu tournament, which is to be held on 25th, 26th, and 27th February, and looks like being as big a success as any previous ones.
