DAIRY PRODUCE BOARD
THREE MEMBERS RETIRING. ELECTION IN JUNE. Considerable interest centres in the fact that three producers' representatives on the New Zealand Dairy Produce Export Control Board will retire on June 30 and an election will be necessary to fill the vacancies thus created. The members due to retire are Mr W. Grounds (chairman of the board), Mr D. Fulton, and Mr W. Bryant, representatives of wards 1,2 and 8 respectively. These wards embrace the following counties:— No. 1: Mongonui, Whangaroa, Hokianga, Bay of Islands, Whangarei, Hobson, Otamatea, Rodney, Waitemata, Great Barrier Island, Eden, Manukau and Franklin No. 2: The outer boundaries of the Counties of Raglan, Waipa, Kawhia, Otorohanga, Waitomo, Ohura, Taum--arunui, Kaitieke, Matamata, including all boroughs and town districts situated within the outer boundaries of such counties, and so much of the Borough of Hamilton as lies between the Waikato river and the boundary of the Waipa County. No. 8: Ashburton, Geraldine, Mackenzie, Levels, Waimate, Waitaki, Maniototo, Waihemo, Waikouaiti, Taieri, Peninsula, Bruce, Tuapeka, Vincent and Clutha.
The regulations under the Dairy Produce Export Control Act, 1923, provide that the rolls of producers entitled to vote at the election shall be compiled from lists of suppliers of milk or cream to factories as at May 1, sent in by secretaries or owners of companies manufacturing dairy produce for export. Separate lists must be furnished with respect to each factory owned by a dairy company, as the Dairy Produce Control Amendment Act, 1926, provides that the votes of the suppliers of each factory shall be recorded separately. In some instances it may happen that a company may-own factories in two different wards. In such a case it is only necessary for the company to supply rolls of suppliers of factories actually situated in the ward in which an election is being held. Each member of a partnership firm may have his name placed on the list. Nominations of candidates to fill the vacancies close on May 20, with the returning officer, Mr W. C. Robinson, of the Department of Agriculture, and the election will take place at mid-day on June 15th.
