PUBLIC OFFICERS RETIRE

PROMINENT AUCKLAND MEN. (By Telegraphy ~ Press Association.) ' AUCKLAND, This Day. Three prominent civil servants in Auckland-(with. '.long terms of service to their credit will retire on superannuation 'to-day. r They are Mr W. S. Fishes, official assignee at Auckland; Mr A. V. Sturtevant, district lands registrar and registrar of deeds; and Mr W. G. Fletcher,, deputy-commis-sioner .of ,sfamp . duties and assistantregistrar df^comij'anies. Mr Fisher 'liais been official assignee at Auckland for the past 16 years. Mr Sturtevant entered the Lands and Deeds Office, as a cadet in 1881. The growth of what are now two great sources of revenue has been watched for over 40 years by Mr Fletcher, who has served all but six years of that time in the Auckland stamp duties' and company registration office. For nearly 20 years he has been deputyteommissioner of companies for the Auckland province. Mr W. Johnston, of Napier, is to succeed Mr Sturtevant as district lands registrar at Auckland. Mr Johnston, who, was district land registrar at Napier, arrived yesterday to take up his new duties. Mr Fletcher will be succeeded by Mr I-I. B. Walton, assessor in the Stamp Duties Office at Auckland. In the absence of Mr Fisher,, who has left for Christchurch, Mr G. N. Morris is acting as official assignee.
