SOUTHERN DISTRICT AFFAIRS. (Otorohanga Correspondent). Valuable additions have lately been made by Mr F. Phillips to his already famous herd of Jerseys. At Palmerston North sale he bought a yearling heifer ICu Ku Virtue, by Owler of Paketapu—Ku Ku Bassy, for 99gns., and Ku Ku Jean, by Owler of Paketapu—Ku Ku Peggy, 60gns; and another Ku Ku Norma, by Owler of Paketapu—Ku Ku Snowflake, 53gns. Mr A. C. Smith, of Otorohanga, also purchased at the same sale the following yearlings: Ku Ku Bella, by Ku Ku Owler—Ku Ku Duchess, 97gns; Ku Ku Ladybird, by Owler of Paketapu—Ku Ku Lady, 62gns; and a bull Allendale Owler, by Owler of Paketapu—Frivolous Jessamine, 31gns. At a general meeting of the Huia Football Club on Thursday evening the secretary presented his balance sheet which showed a credit balance of £8 11s Gd on the season’s working. Considering that the Club paid £ll 10s for their teams’ jerseys and £3 3s for medical fees in respect of an injured player, their financial position is most commendable. The presentations of medals will take place at a future date. . Mr R. Cowern has intimated his intention of presenting a silver cup for competition in the sheep classes at the A. and P. Show. It is expected that there will be several cups to be competed for. Miss Janet McFarlane, who has had charge of Standards 1 and 2 at the primary school here, was the recipient of two presentations from her pupils yesterday, this being the occasion of her severing her connection with the teaching staff owing to her approaching marriage. Gladys Wade, on behalf of the girl pupils of the standards referred to, presented Miss McFarlane with, a handsome set of stainless cutlery and Ward Allen, on behalf of the boys, a handsome set of glass bottles. Mr Cox acknowledged the gifts on behalf of Miss McFarlane, and Mr Skinner, the headmaster, eulogised her services as a teacher, wishing her every prosperity and happiness? in her future life. The annual installation of the Worshipful Master of the Maniapoto Lodge took place on Friday last, Brother H. G. Corbett being inducted to the position by Worshipful Brother M. A. Benney, of Auckland. There were many ■ visiting brethren present and the social aftermath of the ceremony took placg Jp Turner’s Hall. This is the -secoiid -octasion of Mr Corbett being elected to this office.
