OTOROHANGA NEWS

A motor truck, driven by its owner, Mr J. McColl, ran off the Te Kuiti road about, Bh miles from here, and turned over twice, coming to rest against a wire fence. It is wonderful to think no one was seriously hurt as far as is known, for the truck carried 16 school children and several adults as passengers.

Several motor accidents have occurred on the main road between here and Te Kuiti during the past few days. There is no doubt about this road being too narrow for the traffic it has to carry.. At the same time more often than not accidents occur through careless driving. The District School Committee find that it is imperative to have four additional class rooms, and the AuckA land Education Board is to be written to. The present position was foreseen some three years ago and if advice then given had been followed there would probably have been an up-to-date complete school here now. A man riding a motor cycl'e into town on Tuesdav morning fell off his machine near the butter factory and was picked up insensible. It appears he is subject to fits, one of which seized him and caused him to come to grief. He was attended to by Dr Dean and soon recovered, but had to stay in town un'il yesterday.

A boy of about seven years of age, son of Mr J. Taylor, had to go to the hospital on Monday anrt have the third finger of his right hand taken off. The youngster got a rose thorn embedded in his finger about three weeks ago, and therefrom poisoning was caused, and though the finger was dressed regularly the poison penetrated to the bone and so the finger had to go.

An elderly settler of Te Rau-a-Moa. Mr French, died on Sunday after a short illness. Deceased, who was well known, was originally in the Public Works Department and on leaving the service took a section at Te Rau-a-Moa and farmed it.

Should not owners of motor buses or lorries be specifically licensed to carry passengers, is a question that has been put to me since yesterday's accident on the Te Kuiti road. I am not sure, but I think it is obligatory to have a special license for passengers.
