BOWLING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING.
MR S. SAUNDERSON ELECTED PRESIDENT.
The annual general meeting of the members of the Otorohanga Bowling C'ub was held on Tuesday evening in the Town Hall Council Chambers. The president, Mr C. B. Message, presided and there were some 18 members present.
The secretary; presented the annual report. ' The balance sheet showed a net profit of £6 18s 8d on the year's working, the subscriptions received amounting to £9O Is. The credit balance from the dance amounted to £ll 14s 2d.
Extracts from the report were:— The committee beg to present the an. nuaL report tor the year ending June 1926, and congratulate the members on another satisfactory year. We start. d the year with an overdraft of £94 19s Id, and no other liabilities. Last year 39 members paid their subscrip 1 - tions totalling £9O Is, a falling off of £4 compared with the previous year. It is obvious that members could be materially increased with advantage to the club, and an effort should be made in the coming year to increase the membership to 50. With that number the club would be easily self supporting. The cost of the caretaker, after deducting £37 5s contributed by the croquet and tennis clubs, was £59 Is, compared with £47 Is 6d last year. The debenture account has been written down £lO, two members having surrendered their debentures.
The report and balance sheet were unanimously adopted. Messrs Bell and Message notified their willingness to give in their debentures, and their offer was applauded. The president read his report, which whilst referring to the inter-club matches played, expressed a hope that these matches would be enlarged in number dur'ng the coming season. Deep regret was expressed at having to record the death of the club's vicepresident, Mr W. Rust, whose death had been a severe blow to the club. Thanks were expressed to various members for donations received, including Mr R. Bell for a beautiful honours board, Mr Larsen for a flag pole, and Mr Rowe for a house flag, and to donors of competition trophies. Congratulations were due to Mr R. Porter on winning the club championship and also the president's trophy, and also to Mr T. Tomlins, the winner of the Cassey trophy. Referring to Mr H. W. Atkinson's work as secretary, the report stated that he had been most assiduous in carrying out his duties, and the club was fortunate in having such an excellent mam in the position. As a recognition of what he had done in the club'is- interest he (the president) asiked him to accept a memento in the form of a cheque. The address was concluded amidst applause and Mr Atkinson was given special expressions of appreciation. The election of officers then took place-. Three nomiantions for the position of president were received, and on a ballot being taken Mr S. Saunderson was elected for the coming year and took the chair amid applause. Mr R. Green was unanimously ly re-elected patron. Messrs H. Benner. Tomlins and R. Bell were elected vice-presidents.
