WHO WILL BE THE NEW LEADER?
(By Telegraph. Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. While it is highly probable that Hon. Downie Stewart will be offered the leadership of the Reform Party, it is also equally probable that owing to the state of his health he will decline it. ■ The prognostications are, therefore, that the Hon. J. G. Coates will be asked to form a composite ministry meanwhile, and that he, will then go to.the country. It is highly probable that a general election will take place within a few months.
THE VACANT FRANKLIN SEAT,
TWO NAMES MENTIONED
AUCKKLAND, Wednesday.
Two names are mentioned as possible Reform candidates for the Franklin seat, left vacant by the death of Mr Massey. Although nothing definite, has yet been decided, Sir James Gunson is spoken of as a highly probable nominee, while Mr F. G. Massey, a member of the firm of Earl, Kent and Massey, solicitors, Auckland, Who is a son of the late Premier, is -also said to have been approached with a view to contesting the seat occupied so long by his esteemed father.
