A GRAVE CHARGE
VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY.
(By Telegraph. Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday.
"The girl was certainly violated, and her story has been corroborated on other points, so that the jury had to~ task whether they could believe her story with regard to the only matter in dispute—the identity of the guilty party." So said Mr Justice Alpers.at the Supreme Court this morning in summing up at the conclusion of the trial of John Frederick Davis Telford (Mr Allan Moody) on a charge of rape, or alternatively, of attempted rape. The jury retired at 12.40 p.m. and returned at 3.10 a.m. with a verdict of not guilty, and the prisoner was discharged. ■
