It is said that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but sometimes it is very useful (remarks the Wanganui Herald). A Wanganui resident who takes a great interest in native art recently stood on the site of the old wharepuni. Thatch and timber had long been blown to the ground. He knew that the old Maoris regarded the vicinity of the small wharepuni door as a sort of repository. Therefore he felt in the thatch, and his search was rewarded, with a beautifully carved club ornamented with shark teeth.
