TASMAN OR ANZAC?
CHANGE OF NAME OPPOSED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day.
Mr Justice Chapman, in a letter to the press, strongly opposes the proposal to re-name Tasman Sea as Anzac Seja. He out that the former was deliberately chosen on his suggestion, approved by the Admiralty, and is now on the charts of all nations. It follows tile practice of commemorating the names of great discoverers, and there is a tangible reason for it, whereas Anzac is inappropriate inasmuch as it commemorates only some of those who fought at Gallipoli. It does not, for instance, represent' the French soldiers there, and as such would not vecommend itself to them.
