SHOPLIFTERS SENTENCED.

TERMS OF IMPRISONMENT.

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday,

At the Magistrate's Court Virginia -O'Brkj'vi and Elizabeth Ann Fisher, who admitted five separate charges of shoplifting, were each sentenced to a month's imprisonment. In a statement Mrs Fisher said she was divorced from her husfoand and had three children. She committed the thefts in order to provide for them. O'Brien admitted having assisted in the thefts. The magistrate said he could not treat the accused as first offenders, because they had been stealing systematically. Had 'they been men he would have sent them to gaol for three months. He added that some charitable institution would look after the children.
