TAUMARUNUI ROBBERY.

SAFE WRECKED WITH DYNAMITE

(By Telegraph. Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, Monday.

During the week-end the police continued search for the person or persons responsible for the theft of £I7OO from the dwelling of a native named Haupapa at Taringamutu. Sergeant O'Brien and Consable Ebbett visi'ted the scene of the burglary on Saturday, and found that a safe in which the money was contained had been blown open by dynamite. Two charges had been used, and the attempt, though determined, is not considered the work of ft professional thief. Trays at the bottom of the sale were removed, also Haupapa's) bank book. Tho walls of the room were considerably damaged by the explosion. The nearest neighbour resides two or three miles from the scene, and Haupapa and family had been absent from their residence for a few days. An important feature in the case developed in the finding of a racehorse, Missi Rangi, which had been stolen from a paddock at Matapua last week. The horse was found quite close to the scene of the burglary, still carrying a saddle and bridle, and grazing with several wild horses. Investigations are proceeding under the charge of Detective-Ser-geant Cameron and Sergeant O'Brien.
