PIRONGIA AND BUTTERFAT.
ANXIOUS ABOUT PRICE.
COMFORT FROM MR MASS-BY.
A meeting of the Pirongia Dairy Farmers' Union on Monday night discussed developments on the butter market in view of information received that the Government contemplated forcing down the price of butter and*the probability that some of the Imperial butter now in cool store would be released for local consumption. ■•
Speakers at the meeting were opposed to the attitude of the Government, as understood, and it was decided that Mr Fear, the branch president, should send the following wire to Mr Massey: "The Pirongia branch of the Dairy Farmers' Union is alarmed at the Government's attitude in reducing the price of butter, which if persisted in will reduce production. All we ask is a fair field." Mr Massey has since replied to Mr Fear as follows: "Your telegram received respecting butter price, and representations noted. The matter is at present receiving close attention, and will be further discussed between representatives of the Government and the producers. You may rest assumed that, whatever happens, no in justice will be done."
