AUCKLAND BY-ELECTION
OFFICIAL LABOR CANDIDATE RETURNED . BY BIG MAJORITY. AUCKLAND, Last night. Mr P. Carr, the official Labor candidate, was elected to represent Auckland West in Parliament, with a two to one majority over Mr W. H. Fortune, Independent. The voting was as follows: P. Carr, Labor 5935 AY. H. Fortune, Ind 2856 C. G. Watson, Com 368 L. Pickles, Ind. Soc 131 J. B. Kennedy, Liberal ... 15 E. Naden, Ind 9 The last four lose their deposits. At the general election the polling figures were:—M. J. Savage 10,826, J. W. Kealy (N.) 3330.
