MANAWATU STEEPLES TO BRIDEGROOM. At the Manawatu races on Saturday Bridegroom won the Steeples from Begorrah, hut the latter would have reversed the positions had he not struck the last hurdle badly. Old Surrey ran away with the Hokowhitu Handicap, Colonel Bogey being second. The totalisator on the two days showed an increase of £2338 on last year’s figures. At the AYaikato Club’s winter meeting Namara won the President’s Handicap, with Gold Yaals second. The Waikato Hurdles went to Jewelled Girdle, with Streamline in second position.
