W.C.T.U.

DISTRICT MEETING. The Hawke’s Bay W.C.T.U. District Executive held a meeting on Monday in the Presbyterian Church, Waipawa, presided over by Mrs H. Dyson (district vice-president), in the absence of Mrs Speight (district president). The meeting opened with devotions, after which Mrs Wilson (district secretary) gave the minutes of a meeting of district executive officers held prior to Mrs Speight’s removal to another part of the district. A resume of the W.C.T.U. Convention, which was held in Invercargill recently, was given, and was most interesting. Reports were sent from Gisborne, Hastings, Havelock North, Napier, Waipukurau, Wairoa, and Waipawa unions.

The young people’s work, Band of Hope W.C.T.U., “Copper Trail” for the jubilee (which takes place next year) was discussed, and the treasurer of each local union was instructed to take the matter up. Suggestions were asked from the unions for the agenda for the District Convention, to be held in Napier in September, Mrs Peryman to be invited to be the speaker at that convention.

Charts in schools in Hawke’s Bay were reported on.

The morning session closed with noontide prayer. At the afternoon session Mrs Wilson (district secretary) was the speaker, the subject of her address being “How to make our W.C.T.U. meetings more attractive. ’ ’ It proved most interesting to all present, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Wilson.

This terminated a very helpful meeting.
