SWEEPSTAKES.

CANADIAN MEASURE TO LEGALISE, OTTAWA, April 5. After a long, contentious course in the Senate the bill to legalise sweepstakes received the third reading by 31 votes to 24 to-day and will go to the House of Commons. The bill provides that the AttorneyGeneral in any province may authorise a sweepstake, the profits to go to a charitable institution or institutions. The charitable institutions are limited to hospitals. Only one sweepstake may be held in any one province in a single year.
